Miami Fans Had Clear Message for Mark Cuban Before CFP National Championship

Monday evening in Miami Gardens, Florida, the No. 10-seed Miami Hurricanes and No. 1-seed Indiana Hoosiers will duke it out to be crowned the College Football Playoff national champion.

While Miami has a long history of success in college football with five titles all-time, the Indiana Hoosiers being good at football is extremely new to the sport. In fact, the program had the most losses in college football history until this season, which saw them win all 15 games leading up to Monday.

Aside from second-year coach Curt Cignetti revitalizing the play on the field in a manner that the program has never seen, he has also generated seemingly more fan support than the progam has ever seen.

A prime example is Mark Cuban, who, despite being an alumnus, has suddenly emerged as the program’s biggest fan. The minority owner of the Dallas Mavericks and investor on ABC’s “Shark Tank,” was spotted at the team’s Peach Bowl win against Oregon, and was again in attendance for the title game on Monday.

While the Hoosiers fans are expected to flood the stadium, a small batch of Miami fans did make sure to boo Cuban.

As expressed by ESPN’s Pete Thamel on the pregame broadcast, the ratio of Indiana to Miami fans appears to be around 60-40.

While Indiana hasn’t been the most popular program in past years, they do have the largest living alumni community in the country. As revealed in a statement by the school, they have over 805,000 alumni across the world.

According to the Sports Business Journal, Cuban has helped Indiana’s budget for its athletic program grow from $24 million in 2021 to $60 million this past year.

Cuban and the other Hooiser alumni will find out if the investment paid off Monday evening, with the game kicking off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens.
