Miami football dismisses potential impact transfer WR ahead of season

Miami football has dismissed transfer receiver Cam Vaughn, Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal confirmed Monday, Aug. 17.
Cristobal announced the decision during an appearance on "The Joe Rose Show" on Miami radio station WQAM. Cristobal did not give a reason for Vaughn's dismissal.
"Wish him the best," Cristobal said.
Vaughn was part of a Miami transfer portal class ranked fifth among all schools in 2026. He figured to be a contributor in the receiving corps alongside returner Malachi Toney and incoming transfer Cooper Barkate, who followed quarterback Darian Mensah to the Hurricanes over the offseason from Duke.
Miami has not responded to a request for comment on Vaughn's dismissal by USA TODAY Sports at the time this story published.

Vaughn transferred to Miami over the offseason after a single season at West Virginia, where in 2025 he caught 35 passes for 541 yards and four touchdowns. He previously played at Jacksonville State under coach Rich Rodriguez, whom he followed to Morgantown. He played in 17 games over two seasons with the Gamecocks, not logging any stats in 2023. In 2024, he had 48 catches, 803 yards and five touchdowns.
Cam Vaughn 247 rankings
Vaughn, a member of the 2023 recruiting class, did not receive any rating from 247Sports Composite coming out Temple (Georgia) High School. He was the 36th-ranked receiver in the 2026 transfer portal class, as well as the 160th best player overall.
