Miami football is going to score a ton of points this season, but the defense will likely determine how far this team goes in 2026. Ahmad Moten Sr. is a critical part of a defensive line that played splendidly en route to the Hurricanes’ national championship appearance last season. The redshirt senior wants to help the program finish its climb back to the top of the college sports world, but he has to stay healthy.
Moten exited Friday’s road game versus Wake Forest with a left arm injury and headed to the locker room. Luckily, he eventually returned to the field, per On3’s Pete Nakos. Fans can rest easy for now, as Miami continues its dominant start to the campaign. The Canes lead 24-7 at halftime.
Darian Mensah is playing at an unfathomably efficient level on his new team, completing 20-of-20 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns at time of print. The Duke transfer has only four incompletions on the year. Malachi Toney could have over 500 receiving yards through three games. This offense has looked unstoppable thus far. Even against better competition, it is hard to foresee the unit truly stagnating.

Again, though, the defense will need to be ready to pick up Mensah and company if necessary.
Ahmad Moten Sr. possesses invaluable experience after all the big games he played in last season. The Second-Team All-ACC selection recorded four and a half sacks, 20 solo tackles and nine tackles for loss during the 2025 campaign. He is still waiting to enter his next gear in 2026. Miami football will keep an eye on him in this one. The scoreboard could always compel head coach Mario Cristobal to give the star defensive tackle some additional rest.
