Miami (FL) football enters into a first versus second place showdown with Clemson Saturday. Quarterback Darian Mensah can boost his NFL Draft stock there. But Mensah will roll without two heralded defensive teammates OJ Frederique and Ja’Boree Antoine.

The star cornerbacks Frederique and Antoine received this update via ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel.

“Miami’s secondary remains banged up heading into Clemson. O.J. Frederique and Ja’Boree Antoine are out,” Thamel posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Thamel also adds that fellow star cornerback Xavier Lucas “is questionable” for the showdown too. Leaving head coach Mario Cristobal without three experienced cornerbacks for this pivotal Atlantic Coast Conference showdown.

Miami might have to resort into playing into a shootout for this ACC battle. Although the conference’s second place team has struggled with generating a consistent offense this season. The Tigers haven’t surpassed the 30-point mark this season. And the closest they got was dropping 28 on North Carolina, which saw the Tar Heels dominate that game early before Clemson rallied for the 28-20 win.

Saturday’s game becomes an early critical showdown for the aspiring national title contender Hurricanes. This showdown becomes the first battle involving the conference leader and second-best ACC team this season. And the last thing Miami needs is to get tripped up by an upset-minded team, especially one that’s aiming to prove they still belong among the conference’s elite.

Coach Dabo Swinney has Clemson rolling on a three-game winning streak following its season-opening debacle versus LSU. South Carolina’s version of Death Valley will be rocking. Now Miami must roll without two prized defenders while perhaps missing a third. But the ‘Canes enter as a big 16.5-point road favorite.
