MIAMI, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes’ 2027 recruiting class just got a whole lot better. Already ranked among the nation’s best across several platforms, five-star athlete A’mir Sears is set to join. Earlier this week, he decided to reclassify from the 2028 to 2027 graduating class.
Sears will attend Christopher Columbus High School as a senior. He spent the last couple of years at West Broward, a public institution located in Pembroke Pines. Sears played on both sides of the field. As a cornerback, he logged 118 total tackles, 91 solos and 27 assists, 5.5 tackles for loss, a sack, 12 passes defended, and seven interceptions, two pick-sixes, in 27 total games. On the other side of the field, Sears caught 55 passes for 1,204 yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
The Hurricanes were among the finalists for the local five-star recruit, along with LSU, Michigan, and Texas A&M. On the CBS Sports Football YouTube channel, he formally announced the decision to attend “The U.” Sears was surrounded by family and friends at Dick Sporting Goods.
After reclassifying, Sears is ranked 11th nationally, the best athlete, and second from Florida for the 2027 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite. He earned several Power Four scholarship offers, including from Florida, Ohio State, Oregon, Florida State, Georgia, Alabama, Louisville, North Carolina State, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame, among others. Sears is listed at 6-1 and 178 pounds.
The highly-touted prospect is likely to be a full-time cornerback upon enrolling. He will pair alongside five-star Donte Wright in the Hurricanes’ 2027 class. Sears is the ninth Florida prospect to stay close to home.
Coming off the National Championship game, Mario Cristobal established a brighter future for the program. The Hurricanes are currently up to 21 commits for 2027.
Sears has the speed and athleticism to be a disruptor in the passing game. He will develop directly under cornerback coach Terry Jefferson, who was promoted on the staff in early May.
This commitment is another testament to how Mario Cristobal completely changed “The U’s” image for the better. Rather than missing out to other competitive programs, local prospects are staying close to home.
Following Sear’s decision, the Hurricanes’ 2027 recruiting class ranks among the top five – third by On3 and fourth by 247Sports. The transfer portal might not be needed as much in the near future, given all the talent that’s set to join next year.
