Miami Hurricanes Among Top 12 for Four-Star Alabama Safety

MIAMI, Fla. – Although the noise has gone silent, the Miami Hurricanes’ 2027 recruiting class still ranks among the nation’s best, according to both 247Sports (fifth) and On3 (third). It’s a testament to the program’s changing image following the National Championship game. Mario Cristobal and the staff flipped four prolific recruits, including five-star cornerback Donte Wright, and the group is mostly made up of out-of-state talent.
It allows the program to work towards a brighter future.
Four-star safety CJ Craig-James announced the top 12 schools for him on Monday:
– Auburn
– Florida
– Cal
– Georgia
– Vanderbilt
– Alabama
– Notre Dame
– Clemson
– Ohio State
– Oregon
– LSU
– Miami
The top-90 prospect currently attends A.H. Parker High School, a four-year public institution located in Birmingham, Alabama. He logged 37 total tackles, 25 solos and 12 assists, four interceptions, and a touchdown off a fumble recovered in 12 games as a sophomore.
Craig-James is listed at 6-3 and 185 pounds – ranked the eighth-best safety and sixth-best Alabama recruit, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. He’s made six unofficial visits to the Crimson Tide campus in Tuscaloosa. Craig-James made a trip down to South Florida on June 7 for an unofficial visit around the Coral Gables campus and facility.
According to CanesInSight, the four-star safety plans to return in the “near future” and will attend the Hurricanes’ home game against the Florida State Seminoles on Oct. 17. It allows the program to come off more appealing in the recruiting process.
The Hurricanes currently have two commits for the 2028 class: four-star offensive tackle Kweli Fielder (Carrollton High School) and three-star quarterback Knox Annis (Mandarin High School). It will likely take extra time before Craig-James decides to join them. The Hurricanes are hoping to be in the midst of another National Championship chase.
Given all the roster modifications, the program is looking to claim its first Atlantic Coast Conference title.
The Hurricanes already have significant high-school talent coming in ahead of the 2027 season. Replicating that success for another year puts the program in a long-term plan to contend. The biggest battle in Craig-James’ case is beating the opportunity to play for a rich football school, such as Alabama.
Although the Nick Saban days are over, the Crimson Tide are still one of college football’s biggest brands.
The Hurricanes will have more work lined up for the 2028 high school trail, but the future is shining bright upon the Coral Gables campus.
