Miami football came within a few plays last season of winning its first national championship last season, falling 27-21 to Indiana in the title game of the College Football Playoff.
For the first time since that fateful night in suburban Miami, the Hurricanes will return to the field for a game.

Coach Mario Cristobal's team will begin a 2026 season with no shortage of expectations on Friday, Sept. 4 with a game against Stanford at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, California in a Week 1 matchup of teams picked to finish first and last in the ACC in the conference's preseason poll.
Despite losing several key players to graduation and the NFL, Miami enters the season at No. 7 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, thanks in some part to a highly rated transfer portal haul highlighted by quarterback Darian Mensah, edge rusher Damon Wilson II and wide receiver Cooper Barkate. They'll join an already talented roster featuring established stars like wide receiver Malachi Toney and running back Mark Fletcher Jr.
The Hurricanes will try to win their first-ever ACC championship this season, a task that begins with a meeting with the Cardinal. Stanford is in its first season under coach Tavita Pritchard, a former Cardinal quarterback who led his alma mater to a 37-27 win against Hawai'i last Saturday in Week 0. He'll aim to reverse the fortunes of a program that was a national power for much of the 2010s, but went just 16-44 from 2021-25.
The two programs played last season, with Miami picking up a 42-7 victory.
