Miami vs Virginia Tech Prediction: The Hurricanes Had Better Be Fantastic

If only something interesting were happening with both of these teams.

Virginia Tech got its head coach, but he’s not getting going yet. James Franklin was introduced to the Hokie fans, and the former Penn State head coach should turn into a home run hire. But for now, it’s about relaxing, turning it loose, and trying to play the spoiler role now that the team is out of the bowl hunt.

All Miami is trying to do is make the College Football Playoff.

Currently at 14 in the CFP rankings, the Hurricanes have to look amazing to generate more of a buzz. They blew out Syracuse and NC State over the last two weeks, and if they can win this, it’ll set up a showdown with Pitt.

Why Miami Will Win

If the Hurricanes are fully focused and able to play up to their talent level, forget it.

This is one of the most maddening teams in the country. When it’s in a groove and sharp, it blows teams out of the water. When it’s turning the ball over, out of sync, and without any sort of energy, it gets tentative.

That’s where the Virginia Tech defense comes in.

The Hokies can’t get the defense off the field, and best of all for this Miami team, they don’t take the ball away. But …

Why Virginia Tech Will Win

It’s the last home game of the season, the new head coach is ready to take over soon, and now it’s time to fire away.

The offense has the ability to put up big yards in chunks. There’s just enough of a downfield passing game to keep firing away, and if there’s a little bit of defense to help the cause, the road version of Miami might show up.

This is just the team’s third game away from Hard Rock. It lost to SMU in overtime, and had a hard time putting away Florida State – sort of, but the final score was close.

Stop the Miami running game, and the Hokies have a shot. They’re 3-0 when allowing fewer than 90 yards on the ground. Louisville beat Miami after allowing just 63, and …

Miami vs Virginia Tech Prediction, Betting Lines

Miami will have to overcome the early emotion of the Virginia Tech crowd, Franklin, and a team that will be great on its first two drives. Once the game settles in, the Hurricane running game will take over, and it’ll be a methodically dominant final 35 minutes.

It won’t be enough to make the College Football Playoff committee care, but it’ll be impressive.
