The biggest story for Miami’s game against Florida State on Saturday night is not the final score or the win-loss record. It is the crowd of high school stars watching from the stands. According to Yahoo Sports, the Hurricanes are hosting a long list of top prospects for this specific matchup, including many who have already committed to other schools.
No. 3 Miami has turned a rivalry game into a massive showcase for the 2027 and 2028 recruiting class. The list includes uncommitted five-star players and those committed elsewhere. This gathering makes the atmosphere on the field feel like a national event. The game matters for the fans, but it matters even more for the future of the program. The players on the field know this, and the recruits in the seats know it too.
Recruits Turn Out in Force
Eighteen of the 20 members of Miami’s 2027 class are expected to attend Saturday’s game. They will be joined by top talent from across the state. Four-star linebacker Aston Whiteside, who committed to Texas A&M, said the experience is unique. “It’s definitely exciting,” he told reporters. The significance of this game for both programs and their fans is evident. Experiencing that unique atmosphere firsthand is truly special.
Whiteside wants to see how the team handles the pressure. He noted that he is still looking at the Hurricanes despite his current commitment. He wants to see “energy, physicality and competitiveness.” He believes the team must compete for all four quarters in a big rivalry game. This is the test that separates good teams from great ones in the eyes of future players.
Jaxon Flowers, a four-star prospect from Jacksonville Bolles, sees the stakes clearly. He said coaches might claim it is just another game, but that is not true. “Bragging rights are definitely on the line, and everyone will get up for this game,” Flowers said. “Games like this [are] where you show what you’re made of. I can’t wait.”
Top Talent Watching Closely
The list of visitors reads like a who’s who of future college football. Five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright and offensive lineman Maui Tonata are on the list. Safety Casey Barner and wide receiver Jaylen Addai are also coming to South Florida. A quartet of Bolles stars is traveling together from Jacksonville. This group also includes five-star defensive end Asher Ghioto, running back Xander Edwards, and tight end J.C. Wessel.
Ghioto stated he hopes to witness a robust defensive showing from Miami this weekend. “I hope to see Miami’s defense swarm and get after the quarterback,” Ghioto said. The recruits are not just watching; they are building relationships with each other and the players they might one day play with. Flowers noted that he has played with Ghioto and Edwards since they were six years old.
These young men understand the weight of the moment. They know that a rivalry game often decides where they will play next. The energy in the stadium will be different because so many talented players are in the stands. This crowd changes the dynamic of the entire event.
What the Veterans Know
Current Miami players understand the pressure these recruits feel. Running back Mark Fletcher Jr. was once in that position. He was a four-star recruit who started as an Ohio State commit before choosing Miami. He knows what it is like to have your future on the line while watching a big game. His path shows that the right choice can change a career.
