Michael Jordan’s autographed 1998 NBA Finals jersey sold privately for $14 million, setting a record for basketball memorabilia and attracting a Miami investor.

A piece of Michael Jordan’s final championship run with the Chicago Bulls has changed hands for $14 million, setting a new record for basketball memorabilia and underscoring the lasting commercial value of the NBA legend’s career.

The red autographed road jersey was worn by Jordan during Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz on June 5, when Chicago won to level the series at one game apiece. The Bulls eventually won the championship in six games, securing Jordan’s sixth and final NBA title.

The Associated Press, in a report by Tim Reynolds published October 12, said Pennsylvania-based Hunt Auctions announced the private sale and identified the buyer as Ron Firman, a Miami real estate investor. The transaction was negotiated privately rather than conducted through a public auction.

“I’m very excited about the purchase,” Firman said in a statement released by the auction house, describing Jordan as a player admired around the world.

The price establishes a record for a single piece of basketball memorabilia, according to Hunt Auctions. It does not, however, set the record for the most expensive game-worn sports jersey overall. That distinction remains with a Babe Ruth jersey associated with his famous 1932 World Series home run, which sold for $24.12 million in 2024.

The latest deal also adds to a remarkable run of high-value sales involving Jordan’s 1998 Finals uniforms. A jersey from Game 1 sold for approximately $10.1 million in 2022, while another worn during Game 3 brought about $12.26 million at auction in September 2026. The newly disclosed $14 million transaction surpasses both figures.

The jersey’s history may have strengthened its appeal to collectors. Hunt Auctions said a private collector purchased it directly from the Bulls in 2003 and that it had changed hands only once since then.

Jordan’s final season in Chicago remains a major draw for fans and collectors. The 1997-98 campaign was chronicled in the 2020 documentary series, “The Last Dance,” which renewed interest in the team’s championship run and the figures behind it.

In 2023, Jordan’s game-worn sneakers from the same Finals series sold for $2.2 million through Sotheby’s, setting a record for sneakers at the time.

Hunt Auctions president David Hunt said the jersey’s sale reflected Jordan memorabilia’s growing status among high-end collectibles. The latest price reinforces the demand for items tied to defining moments in sports history, particularly Jordan’s final title with the Bulls.
