Michigan boosts passing game with J.J. Buchanan commitment

Under new head coach Kyle Whittingham, Michigan football has been playing a game of you win some, and you lose some. And while there have been significant transfer portal entries in the past few days, Sunday has marked a series of wins for the Wolverines.

Michigan managed to secure the rights to former Texas wide receiver Jaime Ffrench and former Colorado State quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi on Sunday, but they weren't done. Fresh off a visit to Ann Arbor, there were high hopes that JJ Buchanan, the former Utah tight end, would follow his coaching staff from the Big XII to the Big Ten, and it turns out that's the case.

On Sunday night, Buchanan made it official, committing to Michigan football.

Buchanan is listed at 6-foot-4, 208 pounds, and is a dynamic pass catcher. Coming off his freshman season, he had 26 catches for 427 yards and five touchdowns. A four-star as a recruit, according to 247Sports (No. 184 nationally), he will help the Wolverines stretch the field, especially considering his versatility — more akin to Colston Loveland than recent starter Marlin Klein.

With Klein leaving for the NFL and Hogan Hansen struggling to remain healthy, Buchanan gives the maize and blue a veritable weapon who can line up all over the field.

He has three years of eligibility remaining.
