- His situation got an update
- It came amid a hailstorm of Sherrone Moore news
The Michigan Wolverines went into the 2025 season with six captains including offensive and defense players in search of their fourth Big Ten Championship in five years.
Things didn’t break the maize and blue’s way as injuries to top players Justice Haynes, Max Bredeson and Jordan Marshall culminated in a 27-9 home loss to Ohio State that derailed former coach Sherrone Moore’s team’s title hopes.
This week, Moore’s personal and professional lives took center stage as he was fired by the university for inappropriate conduct with assistant Paige Shivers, eventually leading to his arrest after a confrontation with Shivers.
On Friday, word broke that one of Michigan’s six 2025 captains got an update on his potential playing status for next season.
Rod Moore’s Latest Update
Rod Moore is a safety from Ohio who had big plans for the 2025 season after missing all of 2024.
Moore once again faced injury challenges that kept him out for most of the 2025 season.
On Friday, a source told CBS Sports that Moore might be back for 2026.
“Michigan fifth-year safety Rod Moore, who was limited to three games this year while working back from a knee injury, is expected to be able to return to college for another season pending final NCAA clearance, a source tells @CBSSports,” reporter Matt Zenitz wrote on X.
“Two time All-Big Ten selection,” Zenitz wrote.
Rod Moore’s absence was felt during this year’s Ohio State game.
The hero of the 2023 game at Michigan Stadium when he picked off former Ohio State quarterback McCord in the final seconds, Moore’s replacement Jaden Mangham was burned on a long Carnell Tate touchdown that broke the 2025 game open for the Buckeyes.
Fans React to Moore Development
Fans reacted to the news on X in many different ways.
“Owns Ohio State btw,” one person said.
“The guys could use leadership for sure,” another said. “Hope he returns.”
“Ready to tackle more seasons,” another said.
