Three official visit weekends down, one to go. And this upcoming weekend is the big one — Victor’s Weekend. The annual recruiting weekend every year where all of the Wolverines’ commitments gather in Ann Arbor and put a full-court press on their remaining top targets that also so happen to be in town the same weekend.
But before we get to any of that this week, let’s recap the latest Michigan recruiting news from the past few days.
Michigan in a great spot for elite CB
The Wolverines hosted one of the nation’s premier cornerback prospects over the weekend for an official visit in 2027 five-star Joshua Dobson. The No. 11 overall prospect in the country and No. 3 cornerback, per Rivals’ Industry Rankings, has long been a lean to Texas A&M, but after leaving his official visit from College Station a couple weeks ago and not committing, it appears Michigan may have a better chance with him than most think.
“Michigan definitely has a shot,” Rennard Dobson, Joshua’s father, told The Wolverine’s Ethan McDowell ($) prior to the official visit this past weekend. “That’s the reason why we’re coming on this visit. Any school that he took a visit to has a great shot at landing him, definitely, most truly. When we put Michigan in there, it was for a reason, you know what I’m saying? Because they stood out for everything that Josh looks for as far as the school, so therefore, they definitely have more than a shot.”
That sentiment was reiterated by one of the best recruiting insiders in the game. Going into that official visit, Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong ($) said “Michigan is certainly a program to watch for Dobson.” Additionally, Rivals’ Chad Simmons said that “Michigan is viewed as A&M’s biggest competition with a chance to make a significant move in this race this weekend.”
Now, after the official visit, Dobson is speaking glowingly about his experience in Ann Arbor.
“Man it’s something special they are building and they want me to be a part of it,” Dobson told Wiltfong ($). “They put me in front of some big-time people. Since being recruited, I’ve talked to Charles Woodson, Matt Lester, Floyd Mayweather and more. The connections at Michigan are endless.
“The OV was great, they definitely shocked me and I’m going to have a hard decision.”
Dobson has one more official visit on the docket for this upcoming weekend at South Carolina. He is tentatively planning to make a commitment on July 1.
New LB target recaps recent visit
Michigan also hosted a mid-week visitor last week in 2027 four-star linebacker Frederrick Ford. The Greenwood, Mississippi native earned his offer from position coach Alex Whittingham back on June 4 and quickly scheduled his first visit to Ann Arbor, which was an unofficial.
“The visit to Michigan was very good,” Ford told The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($). “Michigan gave me a lot to think about. They are definitely amongst the top.”
At 6-foot-5 and 190 pounds, Ford is a versatile prospect that could play in a couple different positions. However, Ford told Marich that Michigan’s play is for him to play linebacker but “move me around because I can blitz, play the run and cover.
The Wolverines have a very interesting comp for Ford as well.
“They compared me to Fred Warner and several other former players and pro athletes they coached,” Ford said. “Being compared to a professional athlete is always a plus. Knowing that they see similarities in myself means they see great potential in me, too.”
Other top contenders for Ford include Ole Miss, Florida State, Mississippi State, LSU and Tennessee, with the latter two schools being the final schools on his official visit list for June. He plans on making a decision following those two final trips.
