Michigan has fired head football coach Sherrone Moore “with cause, effective immediately,” athletic director Warde Manuel said Wednesday afternoon.

“Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member,” Manuel said in a statement. “This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”

Moore had just finished his second season at Michigan, with a 16-8 overall record. The school said that Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately.
