As first-year head coach Kyle Whittingham continues to construct his modern, championship-caliber support structure for the Michigan Wolverines football program, a key administrative piece is falling into place. Michigan is expected to hire Monique Felix as the program's new Director of Football Experience & Engagement.
Felix, a rising administrative star with deep Big Ten roots and extensive power-conference experience, joins the Wolverines after a successful stint at the University of Wisconsin. This hire highlights Whittingham’s proactive approach to bolstering Michigan's off-field player support, focusing on holistic student-athlete development as he prepares the program for the 2026 campaign.
A Proven Off-Field Playmaker
The role of Director of Football Experience & Engagement is critical in today's collegiate environment. With the transfer portal and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) fundamentally altering how programs recruit and retain talent, the overall student-athlete experience has never been more vital.
At Michigan, Felix will be tasked with overseeing player engagement, managing student-athlete transitions into and out of the program, and leading initiatives centered around personal and professional growth. Her career trajectory shows she is uniquely equipped for this multi-faceted challenge:
The Wisconsin Badgers (2023–2025): Felix served as the Director of Football Student Services and later transitioned to Director of Football Administration under Luke Fickell. In Madison, she was responsible for player transitions, evaluating prospective recruits' academics, and developing programs for the personal and professional development of the student-athletes.
The Baylor Bears (2020–2022): Before her time in the Big Ten, Felix spent over two years in Waco, Texas. She served as the Character Formation Coordinator before transitioning into football operations as the Associate Director of Football Operations. There, she developed player recognition systems, helped manage day-to-day team logistics, and served as a crucial liaison between the coaching staff and academic services.
Championship-Caliber Athletic and Academic Pedigree
Felix's ability to relate to elite athletes stems from her own experience as a decorated competitor. A native of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, she was a standout multi-event athlete in track and field.
During her undergraduate career at Marquette University, she was a multi-time BIG EAST heptathlon and pentathlon champion. Her exceptional drive extended to the classroom, where she earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. Following her time at Marquette, she competed as a graduate student at the University of Minnesota, earning her Master's of Education in Sport Management in 2020 while continuing to compete at the Big Ten level.
Her firsthand understanding of what it takes to balance academic excellence with elite athletic competition makes her a natural fit for the high-standard culture Whittingham is fostering in Ann Arbor.
Shaping the Future of Michigan Football Under Whittingham
Since being named the 22nd head coach in Michigan history, Kyle Whittingham—the legendary former Utah coach who built a reputation on development and culture—has prioritized assembling an off-field support staff that mirrors the excellence expected on Saturdays. By bringing in Felix, the Wolverines are investing in the infrastructure that keeps players grounded, prepared, and engaged in a changing college sports landscape.
With her proven track record of bridging the gap between football operations, academic success, and community engagement, Felix represents a significant early win for Whittingham's administrative staff as the Wolverines build toward a new era in the Big Ten.
