Michigan football has added one of the best cornerbacks in the nation and the Wolverines did so by pulling him right out of their top rival’s state.
Monsanna Torbert Jr., a four-star class of 2027 corner from Princeton High School in Cincinnati, committed to Michigan on Wednesday, July 1, choosing the Wolverines directly over Ohio State and Indiana, as well as other offers such as Alabama, Texas and Notre Dame.
Torbert, who stands 5 feet 10 and 175 pounds, is ranked as the No. 5 player in Ohio, the No. 13 corner in the nation and No. 106 player in the the class of 2027, per 247 Sports’ composite rankings, announced his decision on CBS Sports' college football YouTube channel.
“Displays advanced tracking skills from a single-high alignment as he maneuvers his way to the catch point,” 247 Sports analyst Andrew Ivins wrote. “Not a ton of context as to what he looks like on an island, but has both the agility and burst to be an effective man-coverage defender.”
Torbert also served as quarterback for Cincinnati Taft in 2025. In a 10-game regular season, he passed for 1,791 yards and 26 touchdowns and ran for 450 yards and four more TDs. On defense he added 40 tackles, three interceptions and three pass breakups as Taft went 11-1 overall.
A multi-sport athlete, Torbert averaged 14.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game playing basketball as a sophomore.
It’s this athleticism that has scouts unsure of where he will play — Michigan is recruiting him as a corner — but confident he will make an impact somewhere.
Torbert is the fourth corner in the class, joining four-star Tavares Harrington, four-star Darius Johnson and four-star Blake Jenkins.
Michigan’s class, which was rated No. 21 before Torbert’s decision, now has 20 commitments and will likely climb into the top 20 nationally.
