Michigan football program and coaches often call the team a family. Running backs coach Tony Alford will take that literally next season.
Braydon Alford, the son of the RBs coach, posted on social media Friday, Jan. 9, that he is joining the Wolverines after two years at FCS-level Butler. A 5-foot-8, 175-pound product out of Dublin, Ohio, Alford didn’t appear in any games during his two seasons with the Bulldogs. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
A Dublin Jerome High School product, he set his school’s single-season receptions record with 90 catches during his senior year, when he racked up 1,487 all-purpose yards and scored 10 touchdowns, per his bio at Butler. Alford, a captain, earned first-team all-conference, first-team all-district and third-team all-state honors as a senior.
Michigan is in need of wide receiver assistance – No. 1 wideout Andrew Marsh is returning, but No. 2 option Donaven McCulley is out of eligibility – but Alford’s lack of game action makes this more of a flier than a depth addition.
Alford was the second portal addition on Friday, following ex-Utah defensive lineman Jordan Lea’ea, and the seventh collegiate player to join the Wolverines this offseason.
