The Michigan football recruiting department is getting a bit of an overhaul; that much is for sure. With general manager Sean Magee being replaced by former Notre Dame staffer Dave Peloquin, director of recruiting Sam Popper departing for the assistant general manager role at San Diego State, and director of player personnel Albert Karschnia and on-campus recruiting director Kayli Johnson also departing, the department is set to look much different.

On Tuesday, Rivals' Steve Wiltfong revealed one hire was made, as Kyle Whittingham brought in former USC and Texas staffer Skylar Phan to oversee elements of Michigan football recruiting.

Michigan is hiring Skylar Phan to the football front office, a source tells On3.

Leaving her post at USC, previous stops for Phan also include Texas, North Texas and she interned with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Phan is well respected in the space and was vital in USC signing Rivals No. 1 ranked 2026 recruiting class. Roles she could fill for the Wolverines include overseeing all officials and unofficial visits, providing individual recruiting strategies and building relationships with top targets and their families.

Phan is expected to oversee on-campus recruiting, as noted. As of yet, there are no indications as to who will be the new director of recruiting proper or the director of player personnel.

Originally a Texas graduate, Phan was part of the USC group that managed the No. 1 overall class in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
