The old guard in Ann Arbor is changing in pretty much every way. With the former Michigan football staff having prioritized more top talent, the new Kyle Whittingham staff is swinging even more for the fences in hopes of changing the complexion of the maize and blue in the future.

Things started looking different when Bryce Underwood flipped from LSU to Michigan football in 2024 — and in 2026, Whittingham has surrounded him with more top talent to help maximize the Wolverine pass game. And it doesn't appear that the approach is slowing down.

Per Rivals' Hayes Fawcett, Michigan has made the top eight for an elite receiver out of a talent-rich area. 2027 Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star wide receiver Julius Jones Jr. revealed his top group on Friday, and the Wolverines made the cut, along with Oregon, Notre Dame, LSU, Texas, Florida, Florida State, and Miami.

Notre Dame is considered the prohibitive favorite for Jones, who is the son of former Irish running back Julius Jones. He is rated at No. 58 overall by the 247Sports Composite and the No. 11 wide receiver in the 2027 class.

The Wolverines brought in a few wideouts in 2026, with athlete Salesi Moa (who could also play defensive back) leading the charge, along with four-star Travis Johnson, and three-star Jaylen Pile. Michigan also brought in transfers JJ Buchanan and Jaime Ffrench to build out the group for this upcoming season.
