Michigan football offensive analyst Juan Castillo leaving for ACC team

While it was far from perfect, the Michigan football offensive line came along as the season did, with a lot of youth exemplary at run blocking, but still a work in progress in pass blocking. Given that three players finished the season who were not starters at the beginning, it was quite the honor for the O-line to make the Joe Moore Award semifinalists cut.

But one of the coaches who helped get them there is on his way out.

Around this time last year, the Wolverines brought in longtime NFL offensive line coach Juan Castillo as an analyst. Having previously worked as an analyst in Ann Arbor before going to other opportunities, it was something of a homecoming for Castillo. However, he’s on his way back out, as reports indicate he’s taking the offensive line coach job with Syracuse.

Of course, Castillo was not the bona fide offensive line coach as that honor belongs to former Wolverines left tackle Grant Newsome — who is now finishing his second year at the post after having time serving as the team’s tight ends coach.

Castillo is the second reported departure from the Michigan coaching staff with special teams coordinator JB Brown having been fired from his post earlier this week.
