It wasn't exactly the glory days of the Michigan football program, but 2024 certainly was an interesting year for the Wolverines.
Coming off a national championship under Jim Harbaugh, the program was in flux, with a new head coach in Sherrone Moore and a lot of younger or inexperienced faces on the roster. With quarterback J.J. McCarthy leaving with a year of eligibility on the table, Moore and company turned to Davis Warren to lead the charge under center.
It was an up-and-down year for the former walk-on from California. Warren showed that he could throw, but he also made a lot of early mistakes, with a ton of turnovers in the first few games. Thus, Michigan quickly moved on, replacing Warren with Alex Orji, and then an injured Jack Tuttle, before giving Warren the job back after Tuttle's injury impeded his ability to play the position.
Warren went on to beat Ohio State in the regular season finale before tearing his ACL in another surprise win, this time over Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
He returned to action, at least in practice, later in the 2025 season, but that Alabama game was his last snap, as he is now entering the transfer portal, with at least one year of eligibility remaining.
Michigan QB Davis Warren will enter the NCAA transfer portal, he confirms to @MLive. He has one more year of college eligibility left, and could pursue a medical redshirt for a second.

With Warren departing, Michigan (under new head coach Kyle Whittingham) may look for more experienced depth behind Bryce Underwood. Mikey Keene may return, as his injury after transferring from Fresno State, precluded him from play this season. Second-year QB Chase Herbstreit and incoming freshmen Brady Smigiel and Tommy Carr could also provide depth.
Warren is the second QB departure with redshirt freshman Jadyn Davis set to depart the program via the transfer portal as well. Both made the trip to Orlando for the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.
