Days after Michigan hired former Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham, Jay Hill is set to follow him to take the defensive coordinator position at Michigan, multiple outlets report.
Jay Hill has been the defensive coordinator and associate head coach at BYU for the last three seasons since the Cougars joined the Big 12. BYU has been one of the Big 12’s top defenses the last two seasons under Hill. Hill was the head coach at Weber State for nearly a decade prior to that and played and coached under Kyle Whittingham at Utah.
With Hill gone, Kalani will have to decide if he looks internally or externally to replace Hill. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported Sunday morning that USC defensive line coach and former BYU player Shaun Nua is a candidate to replace Hill. Nua was the defensive line coach at Michigan under Jim Harbaugh prior to his time at USC.
