It was an ugly first half for Michigan’s offense versus Penn State. Michigan had 80 yards of total offense and could get absolutely nothing going.
Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood was 5-of-11 for 43 yards with two interceptions.
Beyond the interceptions, Underwood wasn’t reading the field well and throwing the ball to players draped in coverage when other options were wide open.
After 19 starts at Michigan, Underwood has been benched. At halftime, Michigan made a change — Tommy Carr came in to start the third quarter.
With Michigan at 3-2 on the year coming into the tilt and Underwood struggling in virtually every game this season as a passer, the move to Carr could at least provide a spark to Michigan’s offense. While Carr being successful is no guarantee, there’s at least optimism. Fans at Michigan Stadium were booing relentlessly during the first half, but Carr came out to loud cheers. Of course, cheers can soon turn into boos once more if Carr doesn’t fare well, but it’s time to see what the true freshman has to his game.
This is a developing story…
