Michigan RB, former Big Ten rushing leader Justice Haynes expected to miss rest of season; Jordan Marshall's status unclear vs. Maryland

Justice Haynes is likely done for the season.

The Michigan running back, who at one point led the Big Ten in rushing yards, is expected to miss Michigan's remaining regular-season games against Maryland and Ohio State due to a foot injury. Head coach Sherrone Moore announced the update to reporters Monday

Haynes hasn't played since injuring his right foot against Michigan State on Oct. 25. He's since had surgery to repair the injury and missed games against Purdue and Northwestern. The surgery prompted speculation that Haynes would miss the rest of the season, which Moore confirmed Monday.

Haynes' status for a potential postseason appearance or bowl game is unclear. The 7-2 Wolverines currently rank 18th in CFP rankings and are outside of the 12-team field.

Michigan still has a path to play in the Big Ten championship game and potentially earn an automatic bid into the CFP field. That path would require beating top-ranked Ohio State in addition to getting some help in the conference standings.

A junior transfer from Alabama, Haynes averaged 122.4 rushing yards per game in his seven starts this season. He eclipsed 100 rushing yards in six of those games and led the Big Ten in rushing at the time of his injury with 857 yards in addition to 10 total touchdowns.

Sophomore Jordan Marshall has thrived in the lead back role in Haynes' absence. He rushed for 185 yards and 3 touchdowns against Purdue and 142 yards and 2 touchdowns against Northwestern. But he left Saturday's win over Northwestern late with a shoulder injury, and his status moving forward is unclear.

X-rays on Marshall's shoulder were negative.

"We’ll see," Moore said Monday about Marshall's status for Saturday against Maryland. "We’ll take it day-by-day and see where we’re at."

Former walk-on Bryson Kuzdzal (106 yards, 1 TD in 2025) and freshman Jasper Parker (70 yards, 1 TD) are up next on Michigan's depth chart.
