Michigan starting safety transfer signs with Tennessee football

Michigan junior defensive back transfer TJ Metcalf signed with the Vols on Tuesday, according to Pete Nakos of On3.
The 6-foot, 1, 200-pound safety appeared in 13 games in his only season with the Wolverines in 2025. He totaled 58 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, one interception, five pass deflections and one fumble recovery. Metcalf’s season-high for tackles in a game (10) was against Ohio State on Nov. 29, 2025.
He transferred to the Wolverines after playing two seasons at Arkansas. From 2023-24, Metcalf appeared in 24 games, including 11 starts. He recorded 72 tackles, one tackle for a loss, 10 pass breakups, three interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery with the Razorbacks.
Metcalf totaled seven tackles in Arkansas’, 19-14, win against Tennessee on Oct. 5, 2024.
He is from Pinson Valley High School in Pinson, Alabama. The NCAA transfer portal will close Friday after opening on Jan. 2.
