Michigan State football Ryan Eckley, pound for pound, might be the best player on this Spartans' football team. Seriously. He's more than a punter; oftentimes, he's a legitimate weapon for MSU. While Eckley will certainly be in contention to finally bring a Ray Guy Award to Michigan State, he is also now officially a candidate for the prestigious Burlsworth Trophy.

The Burlsworth Trophy is awarded to the best former walk-on in college football, so Eckley will be going up against players of every position to earn the award.

The Burlsworth Trophy began in 2010, and Michigan State has already had one player win it, when Kenny Willekes earned the honor back in 2019. Recently, punter Bryce Baringer was a finalist back in 2022.
