Michigan State football recruiting, where 2026 class ranks nationally

Michigan State football enters a new era with new coach Pat Fitzgerald replacing Jonathan Smith in East Lansing. And following Fitzgerald will be one of the nation’s top 50 recruiting classes as college football’s early signing period begins.

MSU enters Wednesday with 19 prospects committed to the 2026 roster, which includes five four-star recruits. That gives the Spartans the No. 39-ranked recruiting class in the nation, according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings.

That’s a significant upgrade from 2025, when Michigan State had the No. 57-ranked recruiting class.

The Spartans are likely going to need an influx of young talent with already some top players entering the transfer portal following the firing of Smith, including starting running back Makhi Frazier and top receiver Nick Marsh. The coaching change hasn’t dissuaded some recruits, however, with four-star quarterback Kayd Coffman from East Kentwood set to sign with the Spartans on Wednesday.

One of MSU’s top commits is a local track star and wide receiver Samson Gash from Novi Detroit Catholic Central, who just won the MHSAA Division 1 state title. Gash told the Free Press on Sunday night he will not sign this week, and he likely won’t be the only one.

Here are the rest of Michigan State’s commitments entering the early signing period.
