Michigan State’s Tom Izzo compliments Indiana football ahead of National Championship Game

No. 1-seed Indiana football’s path to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game has included two blowouts, the first a 38-3 trouncing of No. 9-seed Alabama in the Rose Bowl and the second a 56-22 pummeling of No. 5-seed Oregon in the Peach Bowl.

Unsurprisingly, coaches aren’t lining up for the chance to face the Hoosiers on the gridiron. Among them is Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, who obviously coaches an entirely different sport but took time to express relief at not having to worry about Indiana football ahead of the Spartans’ matchup against the Hoosiers’ men’s basketball team.

“Indiana is a football school now, but it’s a basketball school too,” Izzo said during a media availability. “We’re not playing the football team, thank god.”

Izzo complimented Indiana men’s basketball’s history in the Big Ten, noting the Hoosiers were his first win in the conference as a head coach. Indiana will face off against Michigan State tonight at 7 p.m. ET at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan.
