Mike Norvell updates status of FSU's injured DBs, WRs

While all of FSU's starters played in the season-opening win over the New Mexico State Aggies, several depth pieces were limited or unavailable for the Seminoles.

True freshman defensive back Jordan Crutchfield was praised by FSU's coaching staff during fall camp, and he made his debut in the 34-17 win. However, he was limited to just six snaps before leaving with an injury. Head coach Mike Norvell confirmed FSU is monitoring his status ahead of their Week 1 game against the No. 19 SMU Mustangs.

"Jordan came out at this time we're continuing to monitor and evaluate what that's going to look like forthis week, but you're very hopeful and kind of see where that plays out as the week progresses," Norvell said.

He also addressed the status of true freshman cornerback Chuck Kennon, who was FSU's highest-rated signee in the 2026 recruiting class but did not dress for the game.

"We'll see where Chuck is. He was out in the last game. He's dealing with nothing major, but he's working through a slight injury. We'll continue to see how he progresses with that."

The Seminoles were also down two wideouts in sophomore Tae'Shaun Gelsey and true freshman Devin Carter. Norvell is expecting to get Gelsey "back this week," while they are seeing "where things go" with Carter.

The game between FSU and SMU is set to kick off Monday at 7:30 p.m. ET at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida. It is the first time that the two programs have ever played in Tallahassee.
