STARKVILLE โ Mississippi State football has landed its first transfer for the 2026 season.
Missouri wide receiver Marquis Johnson committed to the Bulldogs on Jan. 4. Johnson has spent the last three seasons with the Tigers.
He confirmed his commitment to MSU with a short post on X that said, “Ima bulldog.”

Johnson was third on Missouri this season with 340 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 12 games with seven starts. The junior from Dickinson, Texas, has 1,075 yards and six touchdowns in his career.
He did not have a catch against Mississippi State on Nov. 15.
The transfer portal opened Jan. 2, the same day Mississippi State (5-8) lost to Wake Forest in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, and closes Jan. 16.
Johnson was a three-star in the 2023 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite, but is ranked as a four-star transfer.
He’ll fill a need at wide receiver for the Bulldogs, who are slated to lose top wide receiver Brenen Thompson unless he’s granted an extra year of eligibility. Thompson had 1,054 receiving yards in 2025, breaking the MSU single-season record.
MSU will have a new wide receivers coach in 2026 after Chad Bumphis was hired by Utah on Jan. 4. Desmond Lindsey was hired as the assistant MSU wide receivers coach on Dec. 28.
Johnson’s dad, Domonique, played cornerback at Missouri and Jackson State before an NFL career from 2009-13.
