For the first time in nearly a week, a Missouri football player has announced he is entering the transfer portal.
Mizzou safety Mose Phillips III announced Wednesday morning via social media that he plans to transfer out of the program this offseason. He is the first Tiger since Jan. 8 to officially enter the portal.
Phillips spent one season with Missouri after transferring from Virginia Tech, where he spent the first two years of his college career. The Nashville, Tennessee, native began to see more playing time as the 2025 season went on, but never had a major role in Mizzou’s defensive back rotation.
According to Pro Football Focus, Phillips played 149 defensive snaps for Missouri across eight games. He saw the field in four SEC games.
Phillips finished the season with one pass breakup and five total tackles. He also played 58 special teams snaps in 2025, mostly coming on Mizzou’s punt return unit.
Mizzou cycled between six safeties in the 2025 season, and four of those players are now confirmed to be moving on this offseason.
Starters Daylan Carnell and Jalen Catalon are out of eligibility, and Marvin Burks Jr. has transferred to Wisconsin.
The Tigers can bring back Santana Banner, who played ahead of Catalon toward the end of the 2025 season, and Trajen Greco, a promising sophomore, with playing experience. Freshmen CJ Bass III and Jackson Hancock also have signed on to return next season, according to the team.
Mizzou has added two safeties in the transfer portal: Auburn’s Kensley Louidor-Faustin and Notre Dame’s JaDon Blair. Blair was a true freshman for the Irish last season and saw limited action. Louidor-Faustin has some SEC playing experience.
Mizzou likely will look for another safety in the transfer portal, with Phillips now leaving Columbia.
Missouri has 18 new commitments out of the transfer portal as of noon Wednesday.
The college football transfer portal has been open for entries since Jan. 2 and will remain open through Friday, Jan. 16. If players intend to transfer, they must be in the portal by end of day Friday. Players can still commit to a new school after the Friday entry deadline, provided they are already in the portal database.
