Missouri vs Mississippi State football Game Week: info, where to watch, predictions

Even though it feels like it’s happened a lot more often, Missouri and Mississippi State have only met 6 times int he history of the two programs. They’ve been conference mates now for 15 seasons, and this will be just the 5th meeting as both members of the Southeastern Conference. And three of those matchups have been within the last three years.
Really, SEC scheduling is something man.
Mizzou and MSU met in 1981 and 1984, then for the first time as conference foes in 2015. I don’t know how much you remember of the 2015 season but it was Gary Pinkel’s last. Mizzou started the season ranked, and even started the season 4-1. But they lost 4 straight games to conference opponents, and the last was an ugly home loss to Mississippi State. That Bulldogs team was led by Dak Prescott, and would go on to finish 9-4.
The two teams wouldn’t meet again until the last game of the 2020 COVID season, when the Bulldogs blitzed Missouri with 51 points during Eli Drinkwitz’s first season. It was Mike Leach’s first year there, and they were also figuring things out. But then Leach passed away, and the program struggled to get it’s footing.
Mizzou visited Starkville again in the midst of the Bulldogs 2-10 season in 2024, while the Tigers were en route to their own 10 win season. They easily handled MSU with a 28-13 half time lead, and then dominated the time of possession in the second half to waltz out of there with a 19 point win.
And then last season, the Bulldogs came to Columbia in what was a bit more of a competitive game than you might remember. Matt Zollers was playing quarterback, and Ahmad Hardy ran wild. Mizzou had two interceptions returned for touchdowns to help boost the final score, and they ended up winning 49-27.
State thinks they’re back though. They’ve got a lot of excitement on their side. It would be a shame is someone ruined that for them.
