We have always been at war with Troy. And no this isn’t another introspection on the Odyssey, I’m strictly talking about the war between Missouri football, and the Troy Trojans from Southeastern Alabama. A war that dates back to 2002, the first time these two teams played a game of football. You know, the ancient days.
In some ways, there are probably some fans who would say we’ve been at war with Troy since 2004, when Mizzou made the trek down to Troy and took an L. I’ll forgive you if you’ve memory holed this one, because it derailed a season Mizzou fans had a lot of hope in. Future Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware was torturous on defense, and the scoop and score by an offensive lineman was one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen. But Mizzou would get their revenge the next season when they beat Troy in Columbia 52-21.
The two teams would meet again in 2019, and the game again was a blowout, this time it was 42-10. You might remember that season as the one that started weird, then was going pretty well, then Kelly Bryant got banged up and things turned bad and Barry Odom got fired.
The average score of the games in Columbia has been 46-13. That’s a 33 point spread, and the line for the game is set at 27.5.
