Good morning, Bulldog fans! There’s nothing like the Monday after a big Georgia Bulldog victory. The birds sing a little sweeter. The coffee tastes a little more robust, your commute is just a little more serene, and your annoying coworker isn’t quite as awful as usual.Espwcially if he or she is an Alabama fan. They may not even make it in today, more’s the pity.
Yes, Crimson Tide fans are still smarting from their second straight loss to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs. Our good friends at Roll Bama Roll are characteristically reasonable, noting that it wasn’t the guys in striped shirts who really made the difference. The Bulldogs just made more plays.
As RBR also notes the loser of this game isn’t out of the playoff picture. If anything, having this loss on their permanent record would actually be a badge of honor if Georgia keeps winning, and could easily shuffle the Tide to the top of any group of 1 or 2 loss teams. I would argue that with the possible exception of Ohio State’s loss to Texas to start the season, this may have been the best loss any team in America has.
CBS Sports’ John Talty largely concurs, making the argument that Gunner Stockton will be in New York for the Heisman ceremony if Georgia keeps rolling. Rat poison. So, so much rat poison.
But enough about the past. Let’s talk about what comes next, since humility is never more than a week away in the SEC. It’s time for the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. The Bulldogs have been installed as a 19.5 point favorite over the Plainsmen. The Warplainstigereagles are coming off a bye and were last seen dropping a 24-14 decision at Tennessee to drop to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the SEC.
One reason for the Tigers’ struggles? Uneven play from transfer quarterback Byrum Brown. Brown has struggled with turnovers, and has earned unflattering reviews from the staff at the Auburn student newspaper (which contrary to your expectations is not in fact written in crayon, at least not anymore). Brown has so far thrown 7 interceptions to balance out 7 passing touchdowns. That’s the kind of ratio I like from my opposing quarterbacks.
We’ll be back with more Auburn hatin’ shortly. Until then…
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
