BIRMINGHAM — The sleet of rain washed away the hopes of an upset as Moody shut out Vigor 25-0 for the Class 5A state championship title.
The Blue Devils (13-2) grabbed their first Blue Map trophy in program history, a comeback after 2024's narrow 17-14 loss to Montgomery Catholic for the Class 5A championship. Moody High School has now won two Super 7 state championship wins in two days: the Class 5A championship and the Class 1-5A flag football championship.
The Blue Devils were driven down the field by running back Le'Kamren Meadows. The Western Kentucky commit had 25 carries for 186 yards and three scores to seal the win.
But what may have been the most impressive (or unique) feat of it all was a 50-yard free-kick field goal by Moody's Ryan Mcpherson to put the cherry on top of an 18-0 first half.
Meadows' two scores in the first half came from a 2-yard and 1-yard run, also grabbing a 2-point conversion for the Blue Devils after that second score. He ended the night on a high note: a 41-yard touchdown run to set the final score with a little over 2 minutes left in the game.
Moody beat Vigor (12-3) on the ground, but it wasn't shown solely through Meadows' scores. The Blue Devils' 277 yards rushing powered them past the Wolves' 78 on the ground.
Vigor had a little pep in its step after defensive back Miguel Wilson blocked a punt midway through the third quarter to set up shop at Moody's 11-yard line, but three incompletions followed with a fourth-down interception by defensive back Kylan Baker.
A near 28-yard touchdown catch by receiver Zykarious Wilson almost got the Wolves on the board near the beginning of the fourth quarter, but he slipped just a second too early as the rain downed Vigor's chances.
