Most important Kentucky players on offense in 2026

College football is officially back as some teams across the country are preparing for week zero games. The Kentucky football team still has to wait to kickoff the Will Stein era on September 5th against Youngstown State. This Kentucky roster has been overhauled with talent as well as question marks. We will start on the offensive side of the ball, but here are the five most important players for the Wildcats on that side of the football.

Kenny Minchey

It is no surprise that the quarterback is the most important player on the offense and on the team, I would say how well Kenny Minchey performs will likely dictate the Wildcats success in 2026. Kentucky has an offensive line that has a ton of belief from the coaching staff that he can lean on. They also have a good amount of weapons that are unproven but can easily make an impact. Coach Stein's track record with quarterbacks has been well documented and Minchey is his next prospect.

It seems as if the coaching staff is extremely confident in Minchey and the weapons around him to have that success. I expect this offense to run through running back CJ Baxter, tight end Willie Rodriguez as well as wide receivers DJ Miller and Nic Anderson. They will lean on the offensive line that they spent big money on this offseason, which should ease the transition for Minchey. If Minchey does outperform expectations, Kentucky has a real chance to make some noise in the SEC.

CJ Baxter

CJ Baxter is Kentucky's lead back and is expected to be a bell-cow type running back if he can stay healthy. The talent of Baxter has never been questioned, it has simply been his ability to stay on the field. The coaching staff knows that and is why they have treated him like a true RB1 this offseason, keeping his physical reps in a limited capacity while getting consistent mental reps to learn the offense. Their clear goal was to get Baxter through the offseason unscathed for the season opener and they did just that; if he can go for a full season he has an opportunity to have a productive year behind this massive offensive line.

Willie Rodriguez

Offensive Coordinator Joe Sloan mentioned in a fall camp press conference that Willie Rodriguez is typically the first or second read on most pass concepts. The hype train for Rodriguez has been steady all offseason and this comment just proves that point. He is a true mismatch and a player that Coach Stein expects to play on Sundays. Although Rodriguez is incredibly valuable to this team, the tight end group as a whole can be equalizers as Henry Boyer has received a ton of hype throughout fall camp and Mikkel Skinner has exceptional athleticism to create mismatches in the passing game.

Lance Heard

Lance Heard was a massive get for the coaching staff in the transfer portal, he brings a high floor combined with a high ceiling as he has experience in this conference and the tools to be a borderline first round draft pick. Heard is a large offensive tackle that plays with violence as a run blocker and finesse as a pass blocker. He is a heavy handed left tackle that has proved he can play at a high level in this conference. The depth at offensive tackle is a bit worrisome, which makes Heard one of the most important players on the offense in 2026.

Coleton Price

Coleton Price brings experience that cannot be overstated with thousands of reps under his belt. With an inexperienced quarterback in Kenny Minchey, Price matters a ton for taking charge of changing the pass protections based on the defensive looks. He is one player that the coaching staff seems most confident in, and the knowledge he has takes a lot off of Minchey's plate. Jordan Knox has received some buzz during this fall camp as a backup interior offensive lineman, but the staff would rather Knox play in rotation rather than by necessity.
