ALLIANCE — Mount Union’s quest for a 14th NCAA Division III football national championship starts today when the Purple Raiders host Muhlenberg in a second round playoff game. Kickoff from Larry Kehres Stadium is noon.
The Purple Raiders received a first round bye after going 10-0 and winning their 36th Ohio Athletic Conference title. They are ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Power Index.
Muhlenberg beat Union 34-26 in the first round on Saturday, Nov. 22. The Mules (9-2), out of the Centennial Conference, earned an at-large playoff berth.

Scouting the Muhlenberg football team
Muhlenberg receiver Caleb Pasols was named the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year. Pasols tied a 49-year-old school record for receptions by a freshman with 33 catches for 555 yards and five touchdowns.
Ten Muhlenberg players earned all-conference honors. The Mules’ first team selections are senior center Robert Terreros and sophomore linebacker Thomas Cerruti.
Mount Union vs. Muhlenberg in the NCAA football playoffs
The previous two meetings between Mount Union and Muhlenberg have occurred in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III playoffs. The Purple Raiders won both games, including a 35-29 overtime victory in 2021.
Who will the Mount Union-Muhlenberg winner play next?
The Mount Union-Muhlenberg winner will play the John Carroll-Randolph-Macon winner in the third round on Saturday, Dec. 6 at noon. As the No. 1 team in the NPI rankings, the Purple Raiders would host the game if they advance.
