Mountain West Recruiting Roundup 12-1-25. The race to Signing Day.

It’s another week of the Mountain West Recruiting Roundup.

This week is Signing Day, meaning no coach or recruiting staff are probably getting much sleep for the next 72 hours. It’s a wild time of year, with constant communication as teams do all they can to ensure their recruiting class signs. They are trying to fend off opposing coaches from flipping recruits while also trying to flip recruits from other teams, or secure uncommitted players. On the player’s side of things, they are getting calls and messages from countless coaches as they make their final recruiting pitches.

Also, although most recruits will sign this week, some are opting to wait until the February period. There are a few reasons for this:

  • Some players are instructed not to by coaches, either because a new coach just came in, or they may no longer be honoring their scholarship
  • A player may want to see what teams get in contact with them. Maybe they think they will get some more attractive offers and want to keep their options open
  • For others, their school doesn’t do a school signing day in December. Or they want to sign with their friends in February.
  • A few have expressed wanting their family to be with them when they sign and February works better for that to happen.
  • Also, some don’t necessarily understand the recruiting process. Keep in mind, fans know the recruiting calendar very well, experincing it each year. Recruits are dealing with it for the first time. Every cycle, a few players don’t even know signing day is coming up. A few say they’d prefer to wait until February and then end up signing in December (probably after speaking with their colelge coach)

Players are making their committments leading up to Signing Day, with nine in the conference this week. Boise State, New Mexico, UNLV, and Utah State all secured new players, with three of those four teams adding multiple players. Also, players are being added and subtracted from classes nearly daily. This week, seven new players committed to MW teams, but four players decommitted as well.

With four new players in this class, the Broncos find themselves on the cover photo this week.

Recruiting Calendar:

Starting today and extending through January 5th, we are in a dead period. This is the most restrictive recruiting period, as no face-t0-face contact of any kind is allowed. As always, coaches can still talk to recruits via phone, text, email, or DM.

Next College Student Athlete says:

The most restrictive of all the recruiting periods is the NCAA Dead Period. During the dead period, coaches may not have any in-person contact with recruits and/or their parents. In other words, coaches are not allowed to talk to recruits at their college campus, the athlete’s school, an athletic camp or even the grocery store.

While the term “dead period” makes it seem like all recruiting stops during this time, that’s actually not the case. Athletes and coaches are still allowed to communicate via phone, email, social media and other digital communication channels. While NCAA Division 1 programs are prohibited from conducting any in-person recruiting, D1 college coaches can still contact student-athletes via digital forms of communication during the dead period.

Air Force Commitment Tracker:

Since the Air Force Academy regularly has by far the most commits among Mountain West recruiting classes, it’s fun to track them over the course of the year.
