It’s Monday, and fall camp is up and running for every football team. As updates come in constantly, take a look at all our content coming out this week. As always, check out our original coverage and what we can find on the World Wide Web below.
San Diego State Scrimmage Recap
It’s time for fall camp scrimmages, and the Aztecs had one of them this past weekend. The defense showed up in a big way, having 9 would-be sacks on the day, plus two takeaways. The SDSU offense was able to get things going by the end, scoring two rushing touchdowns and picking up a few field goals. Their defense should be a strength, with Malachi Finau and Djibril Rahman leading the way. QB Jayden Denegal was in command of the offense, even if he wasn’t flashy, and the WR room had a plethora of players catch passes.
UNLV Preview
This College Football News preview discusses the Rebels. The quarterback is reloaded with post-hype, talented transfers, and the running game will execute at a high level, so scoring shouldn’t be an issue. However, the wide receiver group is an unknown, and the OL has to be better in pass protection. Defensively, they were feast or famine last year in generating turnovers, and the linebackers will be a strength from the start. But the pass-rush and interior defensive line look like they will struggle overall, and the corners will likely get exposed without a pass-rush. CFN thinks UNLV will end up going 9-3 as the star of the Mountain West.
Broncos report budget deficit
This report came out on Friday and has been discussed heavily on social media, with mixed reactions to Boise State being in the red by $2 million over the last fiscal year. Regardless, the facts are that the cost of moving to a new conference (with no MW payouts the past two seasons) and attempting to keep pace with revenue sharing costs a lot of money. Specifically, the school paid out $10 million to student-athletes in the first year of revenue sharing and is looking to increase that number. Keep in mind the Broncos had a surplus the year prior of $11.4 million, and the university can absorb that deficit with reserve funds. The sky isn’t falling, but the cost of doing business is always increasing.
