It’s Monday, and we are back at it! Football season is firing on all cylinders, and we have you covered. As always, check out our original coverage and what we can find on the World Wide Web below.
Bison make another statement with a win over the Falcons.
While North Dakota State almost gave the game away at the end, they were in control for most of the night from the get-go. Their offense put up 28 points in the first half behind three rushing touchdowns, and their defense handled the triple-option well early on before forcing them to shift to the passing game late. The Falcons scored three TDs in the fourth quarter, nearly pulling off the upset, but the Bison managed to hold on.
Broncos start slow, dominate late.
It was truly a tale of two halves for Boise State on Saturday. For most of the first half, their offense moved the ball but couldn’t execute big plays to find the end zone. Their defense stopped the run, but was giving up pass interference or explosive catches on seemingly every Memphis pass. Down 17-3, Madsen found Wright for a 4th down pass that resulted in a touchdown. They went into halftime down 3 and then flipped the switch in the second half. Boise State’s defense pitched a shutout, getting more pressure and switching up their pass defense scheme. They returned a punt for a touchdown. And the offense had a huge day from the running backs (357 rushing yards), and some explosive pass plays behind a game plan that featured diverse and creative plays all game long.
Lobos show no mercy against Mercyhurst.
New Mexico did what good teams should do against bad teams: dominate. In another complete game, they put up 70 points on 7 rushing touchdowns and had 460 yards of total offense. The Lobos also gave up 7 points for the second straight game, as the defense isn’t giving up much at all. This game allowed them to completely empty their bench, playing 104 of the 105 players on the roster.
Beavers fall just short against Red Raiders
Oregon State has looked pretty good against two ranked teams so far, despite being 0-2 on the year. On Saturday night, they were in a back-and-forth affair with the #15 team in the country. Jesse Legree was outstanding once again at wide receiver, but he and the rest of the Beavers’ offense had two big catches called out of bounds on one drive, and then turned it over on downs at the end of the game. Despite the losses, the team looks pretty good in the early going.
