Michigan State football has landed its first verbal commitment from a quarterback in the Pat Fitzgerald era.
Eli Stumpf of Sunbury, Ohio announced his commitment to Michigan State on Tuesday afternoon. Stumpf, who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 185 pounds, made the verbal commitment to the Spartans official by posting on his social media X account.
Stumpf is listed as a three-star prospect, with a recruiting rating of 87 in 247Sports’ rating system. He ranks as the No. 42 quarterback and No. 28 player from Ohio in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2027 class.
Stumpf has been relatively under recruited to this point, with his only other offers being from Toledo, Kent State and Cornell. My assumption is that the Spartans quickly identified him as an under-the-radar prospect and wanted to lock him down as their 2027 quarterback commitment before other big-time schools came around with an offer.
Michigan State is now up to three commitments in the 2027 class, all of which are three-star prospects.
