One of the Spartans top returning defensive players will reportedly enter the transfer portal.

Michigan State defensive lineman Jalen Thompson will reportedly enter the transfer portal when it opens later this week. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported the notable transfer portal addition on Wednesday.

The transfer portal will officially open on Friday.

Thompson played three seasons for the Spartans, appearing in 31 games during his Michigan State tenure. He recorded 66 tackles (13 for loss), 4.5 sacks, 4 passes defended and 1 forced fumble.

Thompson was one of the top defensive players on the Spartans' roster this year, and would have been in line for a starting spot on next year's team. He will have one year of eligibility remaining, and will most likely land on another power four roster for his final year of college football.
