It’s another week of the Recruiting Roundup.

Some recruiting changes are going into effect for the spring evaluation period, which Chris Vannii reported.

This change seems to be met with a lot of positive reviews. It’s not ground-breaking by any means, but it is a nice step forward as college football and recruiting continues to change. Increasing the number of staff on the road to keep pace with the growing sizes of college coaching staffs makes sense. It’s easy to see how this benefits coaching staff, with the best recruiters getting spend more time on the road, while other coaches only having to go out when they have to. Also, no one coach will have to be out recruiting the entire time, leaving room for more strategic deployments to take place.

There is one caviet, which is interesting. While 16 coaches are eligible to go out and recruit, only 10 of them can be on the recruting trail at any one time. There’s no strong argument this that comes to mind, nor has one sprung up that has been found. Simple logistics should prevent this from being an issue; eight coaches go out three days and the other eight go out two days. The next week, they switch. That being said, it seems challenging to hold programs accountable for this (unless someone with the NCAA is tallying up the number of coaches in pictures that recruits post), meaning it will likely be on the honor’s system for individual teams. And if there’s one thing we know about college football, it’s how well teams abide by rules when they are on the honor’s system.

Looking at this week’s recruiting updates, there were very few offers this week, so coaches must be busy tuning into March Madness instead. There were two committments though, one for Nevada and the other for Oregon State. Combine that with the Beavers also having one of the handful of offers, and they find themselves on the cover photo this week.

Recruiting Calendar:

Starting today and going through mid-April, we are in a quiet period. On-campus contact is permitted, while off-campus contact is limited to text, calls, and DMs.

Next College Student Athlete says:

The NCAA defines the quiet period as a time when “a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents off the college campus and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high school.” To break it down, the NCAA Quiet Period is a time you can talk to college coaches in-person on their college campus. However, the coach is not allowed to watch athletes compete in-person, visit their school, talk to them at their home—or talk to them anywhere outside of the college campus. Coaches can still text, call, email or direct message coaches during this time.

Commitment Spotlight:

WR Jackson Batch: Oregon State

“After meeting with Coach Shephard and Coach “Fin” Finley, hearing them share their views on faith, family, academics, and football—and opening up about their life experiences and their “why”—my family and I saw so many real similarities in our core values, way deeper than just the game we all love. That connection made it clear Oregon State, and the program they’re building, is the right spot for me to grind daily, grow as a player and person, and contribute to something special. They genuinely care about our success on the field and in life after football, build a true family atmosphere, bring top-level experience (especially developing wide receivers like me), stress academics hard, and bring a contagious high-energy vibe every day. On top of that, Corvallis is an awesome college town, and Beaver Nation’s passion is unmatched—the fans are the best of the best. With a 4.2 GPA and on track to graduate early, I’m pumped to hit campus this time next year, rock with the team, and get after it—honored to be a Beaver!“
