It’s another week of the Recruiting Roundup.
Changes will be coming to the recruiting calendar, and we have an idea of what that could look like going forward. FootballScoop reported that starting January 1, 2027, the following would go into effect:
The recommendation would establish a recruiting person days model and would increase the maximum number of off-campus recruiters. The committee’s recommendations would provide schools greater autonomy to determine recruiting philosophies and practices.
The recommendation would permit each FBS school up to 300 off-campus recruiting person days during the winter and spring off-campus recruiting periods and up to 50 off-campus evaluation days during the fall evaluation period.
In addition, the recommendation would permit up to 16 program staff members and the head coach to recruit off campus (a maximum of 17 off-campus recruiters). Further, the recommendation provides FBS schools with flexibility to designate off-campus recruiters before each off-campus recruiting period.
Basically, more coaches can go off campus to recruit more days. Specifically, a school can now designate 17 coaches to go recruiting, and those 17 could recruit a combined 300 days in the winter and spring and a combined 50 days in the fall.
This all sounds nice or fine, but it’s hard to tell until it goes into effect. Since coaching staffs have increased over the past few years, it only makes sense for more staff to be able to recruit. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see schools have fewer primary coaches go out on the recruiting trail and instead see a rise in assistant position coaches and increased recruiting staff being the off-campus recruiters. While it may never be completely separate, mobilizing each staff member in accordance with their skill set and high-profile coordinators having a clause about not being one of the 17 recruiting staff wouldn’t be surprising.
On another note, it’s unknown how coaches feel about this. Will these changes put more pressure on recruiting or allow a break as more staff share the responsibilities? It would be nice to hear about increased dead period days in the recruiting calendar to offset the looser restrictions elsewhere. The recruiting calendar is already too hectic for coaches, so something has to give.
Looking at this week, it may be the lightest recruiting week in the 2027 cycle to date. There were only four known offers and one lone commitment. New Mexico had two offers, but Wyoming had the commit, so they get placed on the cover photo for this week.

Recruiting Calendar:
Starting tomorrow and going through the rest of the summer, we are now in a dead period. All in-person contact of any kind is off-limits. But that doesn’t mean recruiting stops; it just slows down as coaches focus on the start of the season. As always, it is okay for texts, calls, and DMs.
Next College Student Athlete says:
The most restrictive of all the recruiting periods is the NCAA Dead Period. During the dead period, coaches may not have any in-person contact with recruits and/or their parents. In other words, coaches are not allowed to talk to recruits at their college campus, the athlete’s school, an athletic camp or even the grocery store.
While the term “dead period” makes it seem like all recruiting stops during this time, that’s actually not the case. Athletes and coaches are still allowed to communicate via phone, email, social media and other digital communication channels. While NCAA Division 1 programs are prohibited from conducting any in-person recruiting, D1 college coaches can still contact student-athletes via digital forms of communication during the dead period.
