My prediction for Memphis football

Memphis starts its season on Saturday with a week zero game against UNLV in Las Vegas. After all the buildup of the offseason, it’s time to make predictions for Charles Huff’s first season.

Huff took over at Memphis in late December, and he replaced the entire coaching staff and brought in more than 70 new players after most of the 2025 team went to the transfer portal. He brought a handful of guys with him from Southern Miss and added several former Power Four players.

The Tigers have spent most of the offseason with a battle at the quarterback position, and they didn’t release a depth chart ahead of the first game. With so many unknowns, it’s hard to make predictions, but I’m going to take a stab at it.

Week 0: Memphis beats UNLV

The first game of the season will be big for both teams, as both sides are hoping to be in the mix as the top team in the Group of Six. This game feels like a toss up with so much unknown, but I’ll give the advantage to Memphis riding the new coach momentum to its first win in Vegas.

Week 1: Memphis beats Arkansas State

The Tigers will return to the Bluff City for its first game in the renovated Simons Bank Liberty Stadium against Arkansas State. This is the perfect trap game spot, especially if Memphis beats the Rebels, but I’ll side with the Tigers again to start the season 2-0.

Week 2: Memphis loses to Boise State

Huff’s team hits the road again for another big non-conference game against Boise State. The Broncos enter the season with a ton of hype, and I think they get the best of the Tigers in their home opener.

Boise State opens the season against Oregon.

Week 3: Memphis beats UT Martin

Memphis will return after its first loss of the season and beat UT-Martin going into an off week.

Week 4: OFF

After four straight games, the Tigers will get a week off, and they’ll need it before heading into conference play. It comes at a nice time where the team can reset before the conference schedule gets started.

Week 5: Memphis beats Charlotte

The Tigers start conference play against Charlotte, and they should start 1-0 in the American. The 49ers enter with a lot of questions but most are predicting Charlotte to finish near the bottom of the conference.

Week 6: Memphis beats UAB

Last year, Memphis lost to the Blazers in Birmingham, and they will get revenge in 2026. While there aren’t many Tigers who were on that team last year, the Tigers have more talent on their roster and should return the Bones to the bluff city.

Week 7: Memphis beats Tulane

Memphis holds a 25-16-1 advantage all-time against Tulane, but the Green Wave have five of the last eight meetings. Last year, Tulane beat the Tigers in Memphis, and while this is another toss up, I’m picking the Tigers to get a win in New Orleans.

Week 8: Memphis loses to ECU

East Carolina has had Memphis’ number and are 18-8 in the series history. The Pirates have won three straight, and they could make it four this season.

ECU feels like a dark horse team in the conference.

Week 9: Memphis beats Army

The Tigers have only played Army five times, and the most recent meeting was in 2002. Memphis is on a four-game winning streak against the Black Knights, and Memphis will get another win in its first meeting against Army as a member of the American Conference.

Week 10: OFF

Huff’s team receives another well-placed week off late in the season. This one is sandwiched after three tough games and before two of the toughest road games in conference play.

Week 11: Memphis loses to South Florida

Like Memphis, South Florida has received a lot of hype ahead of the season, and this could be a fun game in November. I’ll give the edge to the home team.

Week 12: Memphis loses to Navy

Navy has given the Tigers issues in recent years, and it feels like the Midshipmen could be a problem again this season. Most are predicting Navy to win the conference, and this game could have major conference championship implications.

Week 13: Memphis beats Temple

After back-to-back losses, Memphis ends the season with a home win over Temple. It seems like the Owls will be improved following a 5-7 season, but the Tigers will have the edge at home.

Memphis has won three of the last four games against Temple, and they will look to make it three straight in 2026.

Final Record: 8-4
