A prominent national college football analyst predicted this week that some bad news is on the way for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs, and there’s a very good chance he’ll be proven correct.

A prominent national college football analyst predicted this week that some bad news is on the way for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

And there’s a very good chance he’ll be right.

Georgia Bulldogs predicted to lose 2027 five-star commit

On3’s Adam Gorney predicted on Monday that five-star cornerback Donte Wright, who has been committed to the Bulldogs since last June, will flip to the Oregon Ducks.

Wright, 6-foot-1/170 pounds from Long Beach, CA, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 cornerback in the nation and the No. 9 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.

“The buzz over the last few months is that at some point, eventually, the new five-star cornerback from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly will back off that pledge (to Georgia) and choose Oregon,” wrote Gorney. “He was back in Athens last weekend so the Bulldogs are still working on keeping him and his relationship with position coach Donte Williams is significant but two sources really close to Wright are still saying he ends up with the Ducks.”

Gorney noted that the Miami Hurricanes are also trying to flip Wright from Georgia, but “the expectation is that Wright still ends up at Oregon and people close to him are confident in that pick.”

Wright has the look of a future starting NFL cornerback — he’s obviously a player that Georgia would like to sign. But there’s only so much the Bulldogs can do here. It’s been well-documented that Georgia isn’t going to get into an NIL war over a recruit, so it’s not like fans should expect Smart and the Bulldogs to start throwing crazy amounts of cash at Wright.

The five-star cornerback has said in the past that he’s “strongly committed” to Georgia, but it certainly sounds like the Bulldogs are in serious danger of losing Wright to the Ducks.
