2026 three-star linebacker Kaden Catchings has officially signed up to play college football in Ann Arbor for the Michigan Wolverines.

Recruiting journey
Catchings had quite the pathway to Ann Arbor. Originally committed to play at Liberty, Catchings was offered this summer by position coach Brian Jean-Mary. He took an unofficial visit to Michigan, but left without flipping. The Wolverines kept him warm throughout the recruiting cycle, even when he flipped from Liberty to USF earlier this fall. A week after he flipped to USF, he took an official visit to Michigan for the Purdue game, and he made his final flip of his recruitment to the Wolverines about a week later.
Scouting report
From On3’s EJ Holland: “While Catchings’ junior tape leaves a lot to be desired, his senior tape has shown improvement as an actual linebacker. Catchings will need to continue to develop at Michigan and learn the intricacies of the position. Right now, he’s still more of an athlete.”
Expectations
Catchings is a highly athletic prospect, but a raw one at that. He’s still learning the intricacies of the linebacker position and should be viewed as a flier take for Jean-Mary and company in this class. With Troy Bowles, Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng and Chase Taylor back in Ann Arbor next season — and Jimmy Rolder potentially returning as well — there is a bit of a logjam at the position even for the two higher ranked linebackers that the Wolverines took in this class. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Catchings in a special teams role over the next few years before potentially developing into a late-career defensive role player.
