Kemon Spell, one of the most electrifying recruits in the 2027 class, has landed on his next home. The McKeesport (Pa.) tailback announced his commitment to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs on Monday.
“BREAKING: Five-Star RB Kemon Spell has Committed to Georgia, he tells me for @Rivals,” recruiting insider Hayes Fawcett wrote on X. “The 5’10 210 RB from McKeesport, PA chose the Bulldogs over Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Miami. He’s the No. 1 RB in the 2027 Class on all websites.”
Georgia had been a major player in Spell’s recruitment since at least November. Spell’s commitment graphic included photos of Sony Michel, D’Andre Swift, Nick Chubb and Herschel Walker.
According to statistics compiled by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Spell rushed for 1,755 yards this season. He scored 32 touchdowns as he led the Tigers to their district final.
Spell had previously committed to play for James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions, but ditched that idea after the coach was fired. The Nittany Lions replaced Franklin with Iowa State Cyclones head coach Matt Campbell, who tried to convince Spell to recommit and head to Happy Valley.
Franklin took over for the Virginia Tech Hokies and brought several of his former Penn State pledges to Blacksburg. Spell said program success would be a major factor in his decision.
“I want to be in a winning program, to be honest,” Spell said shortly afterward. “They can’t win big games, and that’s something I want to do. … If you can’t do that at Penn State, then coach Franklin got fired and that just put me over the top.”
