Kemon Spell is one of the nation’s most sought-after recruits in the 2027 class. The McKeesport (Pa.) tailback has the potential to be a program-changer.
He offered an update on his process as he continues to narrow things down in deciding his future.
“NEWS: Five-Star Kemon Spell is down to 5 Schools, he tells me for @rivals,” On3’s Hayes Fawcett wrote Tuesday night on X. “The 5’10 210 RB from McKeesport, PA is ranked as the No. 1 RB in the ’27 class on all websites. Spell plans to take all of his OVs and then make a decision after.”
Spell’s handful of final options are Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs, Mario Cristobal’s Miami Hurricanes, Marcus Freeman’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ryan Day’s Ohio State Buckeyes and Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans.
According to statistics compiled by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Spell rushed for 1,755 yards this season. He scored 32 total touchdowns as he led the Tigers to their district final.
Spell had previously committed to play for James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions, but changed his mind after the coach was fired. Franklin has since taken over for the Virginia Tech Hokies, bringing a number of his former Penn State pledges along with him.
“I want to be in a winning program, to be honest,” Spell said shortly afterward. “They can’t win big games and that’s something I want to do…if you can’t do that at Penn State, then coach Franklin got fired and that just put me over the top.”
