Nation's No. 1 recruit visits Georgia despite Ohio State commitment

Five-star edge rusher recruit DJ Jacobs visited the Georgia Bulldogs to watch the Dawgs' dominant 70-20 win over Western Kentucky. Jacobs has been committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes and is the nation's top recruit in the class of 2027. Ohio State coach Ryan Day secured Jacobs' commitment back in Dec. 2025.

Georgia hasn't given up in recruiting the five-star. The Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart are still pursuing Jacobs, who is the best recruit in Georgia and the top edge rusher in the senior class.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound edge rusher put together a remarkably productive season with Blessed Trinity Catholic in Roswell, Georgia. The Ohio State commitment recorded 16 sacks and 102 tackles during his standout 2025 high school football season.

Coach Smart and Georgia have a strong connection to Jacobs. His father played at Georgia from 1999-2002, so the Bulldogs have a recruiting advantage for the five-star. However, Jacobs appears to want to blaze his own path with him with him committing to Ohio State. The elite pass rusher also considered Miami and Texas A&M.

One potential factor in Jacobs' recruitment is name, image and likeness. The Bulldogs are simply not in the same tier of NIL spending as Ohio State. The Athletic estimates that Georgia spends $31-34 million in roster budget on NIL while Ohio State spends $49-54 million, which is the most in college football.

The Buckeyes have 19 commitments in the class of 2027 and the No. 7 recruiting class in the nation. Jacobs is one of Ohio State's two five-star commitments in the 2027 recruiting class. Georgia has 20 commitments and the No. 7 recruiting class in the nation in the 2027 cycle.
